Welcome to Windows has stopped working!

Ok, so tonight I installed my beta copy of Windows Vista (formerly known as 'longhorn') on my P4, 2.2. If I had to rate the installation, I would have given it a 4/10. It took forever, it bombed out a couple times and it was pretty frustrating to see that stupid progress meter reset itself around a thousand times. I'm just starting to tweak around with the UI, install Avalon and Indigo, use IE7 and get the hang of all the tweaks to the OS. I'll have more of an opinion later and some screenshots and video once my box stops crashing on everything.

For the time being, check out this awesome screenshot.
Microsoft, you're getting so polite now when shit hits the fan. "Welcome to Windows has stopped working". Something tells me I'm going to be seeing this message pretty often with this beta. Is this really a message you want to be welcomed into? Maybe Microsoft should rethink this one. Here are some alternatives...
  • Ohh... Shit. My bad. I fucked up.
  • Hold on while I report to the mothership.
  • Welcome to Windows has stopped working. Big surprise, huh?
  • Welcome to whats its like to have a beta release.
  • Ever wonder what happens if "Windows has stopped working" stops working? Find out soon!
  • Welcome to the first of many broken English sayings.

If you've made your way here from digg, welcome to MMP. Feel free to poke around all the crass humor, sarcasm and geekery.

12:01 AM Update: No cool UI effects for me, turns out my video card (GeForce4 MX420) isn't compatible with the new driver for Vista. I'm going to have to go through one of the other computers and find a nastier, more compatible card so I can get those slick Apple inspired effects. So this is pretty much just WinXP Service Pack 3 right now, nothing really breakthrough... Sure, the searching is better, the UI has some slick new features and the folder arrangement and sorting is pretty intense but still nothing that really knocks my socks off / blows my hair back / knocks me off my feat / insert all purpose wonderment & amazement comment.

somehow i feel that asians created that program. maybe it's the broken english.

6:21 PM

you mean a beta release has bugs? that's crazy! even more surprising is that this beta doesn't fully support a videocard that's almost 4 years old...what were they thinking??

10:41 PM

Do you honestly think I'm going to use the flagship machine in my fleet to run a beta product you moron? Get a freakin life.

Broken English isn't cool for a Redmond based product.

11:47 PM

Sorry if my comment came off as crass, but I still fail to see any broken english. What I see is a program called "Welcome to Windows", presumably a tour of some sorts, has "stopped working". Clearly they've replaced the "(insert program) has stopped responding" error with "(insert program) has stopped working". Nothing broken about that.

As far as your machine is concerned I don't really care what you run Vista on, just don't be surprised when a non-final operating system has some issues with it.

I'm really enjoying the design and layout of your site. It's a
